Staff, students, and faculty from Sandia, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and several minority serving institutions (MSI) gathered at Sandia in May 2013 for the MSI K-20 Workshop. The workshop was part of a larger DOE/NNSA initiative to strengthen partnerships between the DOE labs and the nation’s minority serving institutions, ultimately leading to a more productive pipeline of technically qualified students who are motivated to pursue careers in DOE and the national laboratories.
The announcement of a new DOE grant Jan. 15, 2015, will provide $25 million over the next five years to create a new cybersecurity consortium from the Minority Serving Institutions Partnerships Program and support cybersecurity education. The Cybersecurity Workforce Pipeline Consortium will bring together 13 HBCUs, two DOE labs, and the Charleston County School District.
